Default ipod adapter for std head unit

O yes, it works!

Just been to see Simon at PSI3 who plumbed the kenwood KCA-iP500 in and it works a treat! It doesnt display track info but the key thing for me was to be able to hide the ipod and be able to control it from the head unit, which it does, sorted!

Give him a ring and get yourself one!

I have a changer hooked up to my headunit, does this have to be disconnected to fit??

Thanks

Spoiler, I think there`s some kind of `spliter` you can get. Best to do a search or perhaps contact PSI3.

Yes i believe you would need to disconnect the changer to use the iPOD, to use the iPOD on the standard headunit you select the cd changer input.

How easy is it to control the iPod with this? Doesn't it disable the iPod controls when connected?

How do you go about choosing artist/album/track etc. if it won't display the names?

I am glad to hear this but also confused since other members have had trouble in the past connecting an ipod to the stock HU. Also someone wrote to Kenwood and got a reply that the Kenwood HU fitted to UK cars has a japanese type connector that can only be found in Japanese car HiFi stores! I find it hard to believe this though!

So does the KCA-IP500 adaptor connect straight to the round plug on this photo:

Is there anything else needed to connect the ipod to the stock HU?
Thanks a lot

The iP500 has the same connector as a Kenwood CD changer, that is the only connection needed to the HU.

I have just looked at the back of my OEM HU again, its the same as the one pictured in the FAQ.... standard kenwood CD changer connector and the subaru sized connector for power/speaker etc (maybe this is the connector refered to as Jap only.... unlike our euro ISO one???).

Hello,
I finally received the KCA-IP500 adaptor and will try fitting it this w/e. Did you have to remove the stock HU in order to fit the connector for the ipod at the back?
Is there access to it from the side/back i.e. if I remove the glovebox?
Alternatively, I will remove the HU.
Thanks a lot,
Fivos
