Question

Hi,

Just about to buy a scoobie and want to know about the audio. I have a 4x55W Alpine Head Unit - Will it kill the standard speakers?

Also, I want to fit a small sub in the boot as stealthily as possible. I've been looking at things like;

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2456 (active 10")

They also have Subaru Stealth Boxes which I assume I could fit some bits into.

They've also got some nice looking enclosed subs, I just want a little bit of bass, for not too much money, as well hidden as poss.

Any help appreciated

Basically I want a high quality, but not ludicrously loud system.

Standard speakers really are rubbish. Changing the Headunit is important but so is changing the front speakers and adding a bit of Dynamat.

For a 'bit' of bass you could try

...but I'm biased...

I assume I might aswell disconnect the rear speakers, when I upgrade the front and install a sub?

I want recommendations for speakers, then to be driven by the head unit (4 x 55W). So nothing over the top that I won't get the benefit without a seperate amp (which I do not want) but something that will give me quality sound.

Any ideas on subs???

Mmm, well, no harm in leaving the rears connected. They are in the rear doors and not particularly brilliant but are ok to give the rear seat passengers something, especially if you're bunging in an active sub.

The fronts will accomodate up to a 6.5" speaker with the limiting factor being the depth of the magnet, as spacers will be needed. 12mm generally seems to be the norm. to give a reasonable clearance to the lowered window.

I have Phoenix Gold Tantrums. They are OK and are powered off the headunit for the moment. Others recommend Focals, Infinity's and JL's. Not too sure which of these work best off the headunit.

I know this is dull because I don't wanna 10k sytstem but.....

So, you can fit 6.5" (components I presume as I thought I a place for the tweeters on my test drive - MY04 WRX not coming for 6 weeks) up to 12mm deep without spacers.

I'd like to spend at most £150 on components for the front and I imagine I could probably get something for a hundred or less that would be good enough for the head unit? What would people recommend?
