MY02 speaker replacement
I want to replace the standard speakers in my MY02 for something more sunstantial but want to retain the original mountings in the doors (and probably keep the std. tweeters). So just four door speakers.
Don't, at this point, want to replace the head unit until I can find a UK supplied double DIN unit that will provide MP3 playback but want to improve the std unit and speakers should help.
Ideas on what will be a straight swap and better quality and a dealer in the North West (UK) who can fit - experience with Scoobs preferred).
Thx

Front door you are best to fit 6.5" speakers with a small (12mm thick) collar to space it off the door, otherwise it will foul the rear window winder. I would suggest to fit components and replace the tweaters but using the original mounts - I did this with some Kenwood dual mags, but Focals and Infinitys seem to be the most popular choice on here.
Rear speakers are not so easy. You can make 5.25" speakers fit by mounting them to the inside of the door panel (I did this with Pioneer magnesium cone co-axial things), but most 5.25" speakers don't fit unless you do this.
No idea of installers in your area; always do these things myself. Check our favourite moderator's website and have a look round - gives good guidance about upgrading speakers etc.
You can effectively get a UK sourced double DIN with MP3 by fitting the blaupunky MP3 player with single DIN changer - do a search on blaupunkt install and you'll see pictures of mine.

Don't know if Sony do an MP3 player, but I managed to get a single-din minidisc player in mine with a pocket and all sitting nicely in the original space ... bit of tweaking required - you have to use the brackets off the original unit etc - if you need any help pop a mail over and we'll give you full details. I also went for 6.5" components in the front (JBL GTOs), with the 12" collar; in fact, we used a collar designed to fit a Vauxhall Nova and sculpted it a bit which worked out ok, but you can make your own.
