exit interview question I like to ask is, "What would have changed your mind about leaving?" It cuts right to the chase and often reveals the exact levers we could have pulled to retain them. Another one I always include is, "Did you feel your work was recognized and valued?" This helps gauge whether our recognition programs are effective or if there's a wider issue with employee appreciation. I also find it incredibly insightful to ask departing employees, "How would you describe the relationship with your direct manager?" because often people leave managers, not just companies.
