Hi guys, have subaru sti ra version 7 bugeye
Basically 2 years ago set about getting to 400 bhp for as little money as possible .

So have full de-cat 3 inch,
Fuel lab pressure regulator
Manifolds and and up-pipe stainless
Standard injectors
TD06 20g turbo from scoobyclinic
FMIC
ECU remap duncan 383 bhp 330 torque

So basically great but tuebo doesn't come in till 4500rpm and gets a pain!

So want to spend to sort have some latest 3 bolt uppipes stainless rcm
Perrin 3 port boost solonoid
800cc lateral mached injectors

all ready to go on thinking stick to standard ecu with remap but what turbo to get really good spool up "best possible" but will make 400 bhp not really bothered about going more. SC42? MD32, RCM range? HELP!

Should the torque be better?

Any other mods i can make to help going to fit swirl pot subaru want shooting for surge problems!

SC42 Billet every time for me and yes, if it makes boost earlier (Which it will) it will make more torque.

why 400bhp? would you not be happy with 380-390? i made 390bhp on an SC38 billet.

Surely the quickest spooling way to get to 400bhp would be for an SC36/SC38 and a splash of meth, that way you reach your target goal and with the best spool available?

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.
The roller bearing SC42 spools faster than either of the sleeve bearing units and of course makes more power.
It's about what's cost efficient, rather than best spool when it comes to the SC36,38 and 40.

I have not seen many SC42's spool quicker then the graphs for SC36's I have seen? unless i am looking in the wrong places?

hey scooby i am in the same situation!! ive got a bug sti jdm and planning on getting a bigger turbo with no lag jura said the MDX321T are good turbo with qicker spool !

I think you'll find he wrote that it "spools 500rpm FASTER".

Mine makes 400/400 or thereabouts. It has:
HS TD05 20g
Harvey Smith trick up-pipe.
Tubular headers.
740cc injectors.
FMIC
Full Group "N" stainless exhaust.
LINK ecu mapped by Bob Rawle.

It will produce 1 bar of boost at 2800rpm in fifth gear.

The trick to spool is to get the gases flowing right: harvey was your man for that, but try ringing Darren at DLM Motor services, Darlington, see if he has any of Harvey's up-pipes, and what he advises.

No, just looking at it in the wrong manner.
A roller bearing turbo will respond faster on a part load and through the gears, you can't see that on a graph !

Hi there

From RR results like from MartynJ or Simon@JGM and ScoobyClinic looking like SC42 is great turbo which have good spool up and making power

Both turbo like MD321 or SC42 are good turbo and both is good to consider.
Price for SC42 is better and really best is try both turbo before you will make decision.

Really I wish we are tried SC42 on our 2.1L just for comparison

About the best possible spool,as Jeff@alcazar said speak to the Darren which hope so have still Harvey(RIP) trick Up pipe,we are personally never tried,but from test and from people who them run on their cars,there is noticeable difference

Mate just seen your profile, for the mods and in particular the turbo you have you dont seem not to be running alot of power there. You should be seeing more power at 1.8 bar from a sc42. Are you holding back for some reason?
