Default Help needed please. Overheat

In need of abit of help.

I pulled away in my car abit harder than normal shall we say on a straight a road. Well as i went to go from 2nd to 3rd i missed the gear and it red lined in neutral basicly. Well about 5 min after the temp gauge started to raise. I was only round the corner from my house so pulled up on the drive and wacked the bonnet up. Had a slight smell and noticed it had dumped alot of coolant! Ive topped up the resevior tank and its holding the coolant. Any advice/help? Would a pipe of come loose something? I noticed leaked coolent below the header/radiator tank. Feel like a right d*** now

I had a very similar problem.

I replaced all the radiator pipes with samco hoses. I couldn't find any fluid on the drive or where i parked.

I've just left my technician and it was a new radiator for me . He told me that it didn't start leaking till just before the fans kicked in if that makes sense.

At this time of year it might be best to have it checked out asap as you don't want it to freeze over on a night with no coolant in there.

Panic over for now i think. Ive topped the coolant up in yhe header tank as its had none in there. Let it idle for a while and then took her for a test drive. Temp stayed spot on and wasnt leaking when i got back. So im hoping she is ok. Il try again in a few hours aswell though. Fingers crossed

Classic radiators are prone to cracking on the end tanks, mine cracked quite impressively.

Check that the thermostat is still working, also.

Sorry i forgot to even mention what car i had. Its a 53 plate sti PPP (blobeye) im pretty sure the thermostat is still working. Ive had a thermostat go before on my S4 and that caused it to overheat massively even with coolant. Mine overheated to about 3/4 on the gauge when it happened. But seems ok for now since topped up the dry header tank. As i say. Il take it out later for a few miles to test it again from cold

Took it out again. Car is fine but there is a small coolant leak around the header tank. Its dripping from the bottom of it. Guess i need to find out where exactly tomorrow. Its a forge header tank. Might be repairable. I have samco hoses too and they look fine
