Default oil pump replacement

hi guys .got a 2000 turbo classic and was was wondering whats involved in r5eplacement of the oil pump . obviously the timing belts got to come off but do i need a locking tool for camshafts etc? if so where do i get one from? thanks in advance

Hi Kevo

Easy job to do, like you said cambelt off in engine safe position, remove the crank sprocket and the pump then can be removed from the block.

The tool is needed to remove the front pulley bolt but there are alternative ways of doing that anyway. What's worked for me is to have the car in gear and a friend absolutely stand on the brakes - that was enough to get the bolt moving with a large breaker bar.

Ultimately it's not particularly hard, just make sure you restore the markings, including direction of travel arrows, on the belt and put everything back together the correct way. You'll also need proper sealant for the pump itself. I assume you'll be replacing the front oil seal together with the pump, you should also replace the little o-ring that's between the pump and the block.

Any particular reason you're replacing it?

just cos had my gauges fitted inc oil pressure and it read more or less zero so was luking for other posts and ideas trying to narrow it down. but then i came upon a post and iy mentioned earthing the sender. so tried it and voila, pressure!!.somefhing else learnt from these helpful forums
