Default Rear or Centre Thrust

Hello,
Am I correct in thinking all early 2l blocks and cranks were rear thrust and centre is a new age design?.

v1-4 centre thrust ,v5-6 rear thrust

Thanks, how much does it cost to convert a block from centre to rear?

from recall its a couple of hundred quid, i dont think its particularly important to run a rear thrust, i think the big power guys run both centre and rear together.
