Default Not responsive/bad idle

Hi there

My MY94 broke down yesterday.
It suddenly lost more and more power, and then it shut off.

When i start the car, it quickly revs to 2000-2500RPM, and then goes to about 1000RPM, and then cuts out.

If start the car, and try to "keep it alive" by pressing the gas pedal, it judders/hesitates, and does not rev up.

If i with some luck get it up to aprox 3000-4000 RPM, the engine sounds fine, and is responsive.

Any ideas to whats wrong?

Thanks
/Kim

Whilst the engine is running is the check engine light illuminated?

Yes, but can you rely on CEL while the engine is struggling?

Good, yes you can, as the cel is on it will have stored a code in the ECU fault history which you can access. Do a search on here about reading ECU fault codes. It's basically connecting 2 single pin connectors under the dash, turn on the ignition and the cel will flash at you, a steady even flash = no stored codes. A slow flash = x10 and a fast one = x1 so 2 slow and 3 fast would be 23 etc you can then compare your code against a list of subaru fault codes to see what may have caused your issue.More than one code may be stored, there will be a pause in between each code, they repeat over and over so just keep watching until you are happy you have the code/s. Don't forget to turn off the ignition and disconnect the black connectors when you are done.

Cheers Iain

A faulty MAF turned out to be the problem.

If induction kit, is an alternative airfilter and hoses to the IC, then yes.

No it's not.

Tha biggest killer of MAFs is an aftermarket induction kit with cone filter etc.
Hence my asking.
