High oil temp??

Default High oil temp??

Hi all
I wonder if someone can shed some light in my situation!!
My normal running temp was about 100 on my gauge
But just lately it's been hanging around 120-130 and its in the red part of the gauge now. Which in most cases means a bad thing lol
Any idea of what's happening or to get around this?

My normal running temp is around the 80 mark, have you check your oil levels etc and all is ok ?

Maybe a faulty sender

120-130 jesus, the highest reading i have had from my Depo is 95c so far (stuck in traffic)

Mine touched 120 when the bottom end bearings went.

GET IT CHECKED OUT NOW!

Oil temp. depends on many things - viscosity, sensor location, amount of oil etc.
I originally had the sensor in a modified drain plug and the temps were generally 85-95 the sensor is now in the base of the pump and the running temp is 100. After 3 laps of Bedford Autodrome I saw 125
One way to test the sensor is to immerse it in boiling water and check the gauge reads 100 - easy with a direct reading gauge but a pain with an electric.
Your friendly MOT station will have a probe that goes into the dipstick tube to check sump oil temp.

Money pit garage?
No, use a specialist, someone who knows the cars, and NOT a dealer or Mr Backstreet.

You could be looking at a huge bill and be making it worse. A decent specialist will tell you.

My choice would be Carnetix, close enough? (Melton Mowbray).

Or Scoobyclinic, if you are north Nott'm.

Sounds like a major problem then to me.
I've got to pick something up from scooby clinic on Saturday so I'll probs get them to have a check.

In the meantime, drive off boost, no more than 2500 rpm.

Only drive it at weekends due to me working away.
Rang up scoobyclinic today and told them the symptoms. And they said they would have a look at it Saturday when I'm up there.
What are My options now though?
Has it gone to far?? Rebuild??
New block lol?

This thread has put you in a panic!
If you're convinced the motor is about to blow, what are the other symptoms? rattle, knocking? Is the coolant temp. ok? You haven't confirmed the oil level is ok!
The first oil temp gauge (Mocal direct reading) I had in my STi started to show silly temps of 130+ I was able to test it by imersing the sender in boiling water and it went to 140! As it was direct reading the sender and capillary tube were permanently fixed to the gauge so it meant a whole new unit.
What gauge have you got?

Could just be the oil needs changing also check your water levels if there low then oil is the only other way to cool the car

Not a panic of such, more of a concern really..rather than buying little nice bits to fit. Possibly focus on saving money for engine instead lol. But anyways
Oil level ok!!
Water levels ok!!
Not sure on gauges as I'm away till tonight.
What about changing the grade of oil??
What you think?

This may sound stupid "sorry" but I noticed the
temperatures change when I changed my bonnet to carbon fibre. Nothing to do with it I know but really strange

Not long got home and all my gauges are "auto gauge"
And I have no knocks or rattles coming from the engine what so ever
