Default Can I drive around with Idle Control Valve unplugged ?

Hi,

Got problems with it cutting out.

If i unplug Idle Control Valve it ticks over (but higher than usual).

Is it safe to drive around with it unplugged until I can source replacement ?

(hoping it is just this...)

All the best,

Jeff

My 99 classic was ticking over low and cutting out, it turned out to be the maf sensor not the idle valve

Not sure about it being safe, I'd not risk it. If you unplug, the check engine light will come on and the car will be in limp mode, so not a good idea to be honest, you could try cleaning the maf see if it improves the idle ? on my car the revs were hunting up and down at idle so if yours is the same it's prob the maf, 99 models are known for it.

For those interested or that have the same issue after replacing Idle Control Valve and MAF there was no difference.

Reset ECU yesterday morning and covered a fair few miles and all good so far

All the best,

mine runs without an idle control valve (it hit the bonnet when i reversed the plenum and it's ugly!) i've put a blanking plate over the hole in the inlet where it was. i control idle the old fashion way of adjusting the throttle cable! ha!
engine warning light comes on but definatley doesn't go into limp mode

Newage cars can't have ecu reset by battery being disconnected, you will either need a laptop or a handheld job off eBay.
