oil level

Default oil level

so done a filter and oil change last weekend spot on the mark.
checked the level this morning it was reading over full i know i did not overfill (put in just over 5lt), ran car up rechecked and its spot on,spoke with the chap who has done my cars in the past for me and he reminded me that i had the same thing on one of my old scoobs.
has this happend to anybody else ?????.

5 litres is over full as they only take 4.5. I assume you checked the oil after the car had been stood over night? So most of the oil would have drained back into the sump. Run it up and check again. Theres less oil in the sump as its in different parts of the engine and takes a good while to drain down

yes mate checked the oil at change and added to correct level then the car has been sat all week checked it again this morning and looked to be overfull.
ran car (on tickover) untill nice and warm rechecked and its spot on now.
my handbook says 5 1/2 lts of oil 05 wrx.

Well as far as im aware and certainly up to 04 they all take 4.5 litres. Although its possible a bigger sump has been put on 05 on cars

tbh i'm not sure mate as said went by what it said in the book, but by the same token i only filled it up to the level not just dumped the lot in lol lol.
i understand about the oil draining back down just wonderd if this was a common thing.
in fact thinking back i put just under 5lts in it as i got a 5ltr can and also got a 1ltr can and thats still sat here unopened also have a small amount left in the 5ltr can.

i was told to warm the car up, then switch off and leave to settle for 10 minutes and check when warm...

I always put 4l. in and then top it up.

It should be 4.5ltrs for any of the 2ltr turbo engines.
