Default Subaru iac valve help!!!

Hi everyone, im max and quite new to scoobynet so if this message is in the wrong subject im sorry, i have a subaru impreza gx 2.0 (non turbo) my2001. I belive my idle air control vavle to be faulty as ever so often my car puts the iac fault code up and cuts power to half, also sometimes i get a high and odd idle, i have since sourced and bought a new valve. I tryed fitting it the other day and all went to plan until i started my car for the first time!! The idle was going nuts and couldnt make its mind up where it wanted to be so i turned my car off and put the old vavle back in. Since spoke to the man i bought it off who has kindly swapped it as he fort the vavle was faulty. Now be fort i fit this valve i would like to know if theres something im not doing? All i did was swap the valve but iv since hear the ecu needs reseting and or the valve needs programing? Can anyone help and tell me how to do this small task properly? Thanks

Thank you jura for a quick and helpfull reply, i did get the codes checked at my local garage and the fault code was P1507, i rang subaru and they said this was the iac fault so i decided to buy a new valve. Have looked at the pictures you posted and i did fit the first valve this way but it didnt work and just made my car idle worse, i have since looked on scoobynet and have read that either the ecu has to be rest or your have to drive for a few 100 miles so the car can learn the new valve, also spoke to my local garage again who said it is possible for the new valve to have no values and that they are to be downloaded off the old valve??? I have now got another new valve as the suplier wasnt sure if it was a faulty unit but i dont want to try and fit it until i no exactly how to do the job in fear of damage to the valve or my engine, Can anyone shed any light on any of this? Thanks

Hi again, since last time we spoke iv cleaned cleaned and cleaned again but to no such luck, also on my third valve now, had two off the first supplier i had said about in previous post and got sick of them not working so i have sent them back and i have bought a genuine subaru valve from america, recived it today and fit it as the instructions say above hoping it would work, again still the same old problem, the car not registering the valve, it is fitted and running on pure fuel!!! Now really dont no what to do, my car wont drive as the old valve is wrecked and the new valve wont work, subaru say they have to plug it all in so may just have to trust them and pay a huge bill to get my car back on the road working again. Is this all i can do? Thanks again max

The code p1507 can also relate to the neutral position switch on the gear box very common fault I've got the same problem just waiting for the switch to arrive
