Have you also got upgraded rods?

If not SC46 might be a bit too much for the standard ones.

My SC 46 produces 472bhp at 1.7 bar

1 bar of boost at 2700rpm in 4th.

My spec:

Engine specification
STi 9 EJ257 2.5 engine
- Supertech forged pistons
- APi steel rods
- Cosworth 11mm head stud kit
- ACL bearings
- Cosworth gaskets and seals
- Tufnol inlet spacers
- Cosworth baffled sump
Ancillaries and supporting modifications
- SC46 Billet turbo
- Mongoose 3 inch exhaust.
- Gen 2 Spec tubular headers
- APi variable flow injectors
- Fuel Lab fuel pressure regulator
- APi parallel fuel rail conversion
- RCM fuel pump
- APi oil pump
- Mocal oil cooler kit
- Hybrid FMIC
- Simota inner wing cold air induction kit
- 3 port boost solenoid
- Perrin turbo inlet hose
Drivetrain modifications
- AP organic clutch
- APi Lightened flywheel

Awesome turbo!

Scoobyclinic recently posted a pic of a bent rod courtesy of a 450bhp SC46 equipped car. The had been used hard on a track a couple of times by all accounts, but still......

Opinion seeems to be divided on how much the std rods can take, but it's better to err on the side of caution, rebuilds are expensive!! I'd personally settle for the 400 mark without the rods and go for one of the smaller SC Turbos.

Just a word of caution and as outlined by NS04, the latest Subaru rods are the Achilles Heel, apart from the OE pistons which you have addressed.
In my experience your power is limited to somewhere between 430 and 450 bhp with the OE Subaru conrods and driven hard at 450 bhp I am sure you will suffer a catastrophic failure at some point so check out carefully what you have. The OE STi 9 rods or whatever the correct name for them is are fine on rally cars but they are not making 450 bhp or anywhere near that. Just be careful what you are doing.
Regards a turbo, the SC46 billet would be a good choice. It could be run quite satisfactorily around 430 bhp.
On the induction do not go for the APS CAK if you are running beyond 400 bhp.

Right at this moment in time I don't have an FMIC kit to send out as a direct fit on to your car. We do have FMIC kits that we can adapt to fit your car that will look like OE but we would have to do the fitting in our own workshop as we would not know in advance exactly what bits were needed.
At a guess, £715 fitted.

Good turbo, capable of a lot more than 430 bhp with the right mods. Can be mapped to 430 bhp no problem. I would be concerned as to how it spools and the measure I use is 4th gear on a level road several times in each direction and see what revs it hits 1 bar of boost. Start at 1700 rpm each time. I am not saying it will be a late spool turbo just that I do not know so your feedback to me would be of interest.
My choice for 430-450 bhp would have been an SC46 which I consider is a good all round turbo at that power level with goodish spool.
Good luck with it but until it has stronger rods do not be driving round Knockhill at ten tenths. Sensible boost settings and you will be OK.

What headers and uppipe are you running.???

basiclly i got a really good deal on this turbo and a few other things through colin greer he was a wee bit concerned bout spool times also so a think hes gna send it for a billet wheel from the 71 n hopefully thatl cut spool times by a few hundred revs dnt have headers....yet lol and not sure about uppipe il keep u posted on how we get on
