hi all, going to buy a V2 sti. been told it is a red top, how do i check that the engine is the original red top? are they CDB? thanks for any help

 

If its a V2 sti it will not have a red top engine as standard. The redtop didnt come in until version 3 (1996 i beleive). Dead giveaway is of course the red manifold, secondly coil packs (Red tops have coil packs on top instead of individual).
I think the pre redtops were cdb not sure about the red tops dont think so
Seen a few for sale advertised as a red top when in fact the inlet manifold has been hand painted red

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the STi Version II and definitely the STi Version II 555 limited versions... that they red top engines.

However, the STi Type RA Version II did not have red top engines, same goes for the STi Type RA Version II 555 Limited...

Obviously normal WRX's didn't get the redtops...

 

Yeah, it's something like that - it's documented in that "Impreza" book.

 

Ah yes appologies i stand corrected the v2 sti did have a red top engine but was this the end of 95 on N plate or right through the v2 range?

 

As said, I think the very first STi and the Type RA STi v.2 weren't redtops.

Then from from v.3 onwards, all STi variants were redtops.
