Default how to measure exhaust bore

how can i measure my exhaust bore on my car without taking it of as selling it and need to tell the bore is correct,thanks ste

use a tape measure or a ruler hold it up to the pipe it will read 2 -1/2 " or 3" or use a set or verniers job done

And then do what calculation? It's measured by diameter, not circumference.

Get a plain a4 piece of paper and press it lightly on exhaust tip and it will give you a fine black circle of the exhaust soot,then measure circle

The exhaust tip isn't an indication of the bore........measure the circumference(string) and use google to find a converter to diameter

As Shaun said, I think its the Circumference divided by pie (3.14)

PS its been a long time since Ive had to use pie so I could be wrong

You should probably use PI rather than some kind of filling surrounded by pastry

Circumference = 2 x PI x radius

So radius = circumference / (2 x PI)

Therefore Rob is right, apart from the pie

Correct, and as we are looking for Diameter (2x radius) it is just circumference divided by PI (3.1416)

Internal bore will be slightly smaller by about 5mm.

And divide diameter mm reading by 25.4 to get the answer in inches.

The circumference you ought to be seeing is:

2.5" bore = 200mm circumference, and give for the gauge of steel
3.0" bore = 240mm "" "" ""
