Default OIL OIL OIL WHATS BEST ?

I`ve had a good look on here over the 100`s of threds about engine oil but cant seem to find any that answer my question.
I have a 52 plate bug wagon 86,000 miles ready for oil change and not sure what to use. I have been told by some to use 10w40 semi synth as its best for my car due to miles but have been in touch with Richard Henrys and they advised Millers 10w 60 fully synth.

At the moment the car has a K&N panel filter and cat back s/s exhaust. In the new yr I`m decatting or sports catting not sure yet with bigger fuel pump and putting 3 port boost solenoid on and havng it remapped.

What would you use ??

Cheers

Rich

Hi Rich

A 10w-60 is not the best choice, despite what some may say. It's far too thick to run in a car that is designed to use a 5w-30 as standard.

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives.

A 10w-40 semi is a pretty basic choice for a modified car, it would be okay, but a full synthetic will give better protection and a 5w-40 is a bit thinner when cold, so it flows better and helps with the cold start protection.

Cheers

Tim

everyone has thier own opinions on what oil to use as some guys on here use fully synthetic and some use semi synthetic at the end of the day its down to personal preferance.i would say fully synthetic as got to be the best for turbo engines.

10/60 millers is what i use in the summer, but if your car is just standard or near standard you should use millers 10/40 at this time of year.

Its a personal choice, but i always use millers and choose the grade depending on the time of the year..

I would check oil weekly, and invest in a oil pressure gauge, hope all turns out ok.
