Default Spark Plug Life

How long do you guys recommend for keeping spark plugs in?

Mine have been in a year, and maybe 8k miles now.

It's due for it's yearly service, and I didn't know weather to change the plugs too?

STi8 running 430BHP - are grade 7 ok still as that's what's in there at the moment.

Cheers

I think ,mine are 2 & 1/2 years old... but I have some ready !

P.S. With modern electronics the only reason to change is their wearing out, or in my case cooking them....

Depends how many miles you've done in that year, doesn't it? However provided your engine is combusting properly and provided we're talking PFR7s or a similar double platinum plug, they'll probably still be tip-top. If in doubt, take them out and have a look.

Only around 9-10k to be honest.

So it's not one of them things which you would change every year then?

If you can remember what gap they were set to when installed, take them out and check the gap. If it's still the original figure, then they should be ok at only 9k. If you've used octane booster they may look a bit strange (usually orange) but that's normal.
Although the book says 30k, with anything other than standard, I'd (and do) change them much more often. I always keep a new set 'in stock'

To be honest, I can't remember the gap now! I asked JGM what to set them at, but can't remember

With the power figure you quote (and therefore boost level) I would guess the recommendation was 0.65-0.67mm
