Default Trouble reading fault codes

Hi guys,

I've been trying to get some fault code readings from my 95 WRX as the car is not starting at the moment.

I've been following the helpful guide from the Jolly Green Monster site but when we connect the 2 black wires, I don't seem to get any code readings at all which makes me wonder if we're connecting the correct wires!
Should the black connectors have plugs on? Does anyone know of any piccys so I can check we're connecting the right wires??

Thanks again for any help!

You should have two black connectors that you need to erm, connect - but there will be a green one too if i remember rightly.....

The guide i used was here:
