Default Gear stick

Hi people,
Need a bit of advice, yesterday changing from 2nd to third the gear stick popped out off the selector, its a white plastic bit which seems to be worn out at the base of the gear stick. Does anyone know what this bit is called and where to get one?
Cheers guys

Clarky.

Gearstick Pivot ball? IIRC it is only a push fit anyway, difficult to see how it can be worn as movement is very modest.

Has the ball on the bottom of the stick pulled out of the socket Clarky, or has the entire socket pulled out of the gear linkage?

If the ball's popped out of the socket, the socket's worn and needs replacement.

If the entire socket has pulled out of the linkage, the circlip that should retain it has either failed, or the moulded groove in the bottom of the socket has broken off allowing the clip to drop off.

Either way you're likely to be needing a new socket.

Hey Splitpin, so in this diagram which part do you think is most likely to have failed? Can you see the circlip you mentioned on this ?

The circlip I was talking about is item number 29 on that diagram, "snap ring outer" in Subaruspeak. The socket is item 19. The socket should be held into the stay by the snap ring. As above, if the socket has come out of the stay, either the circlip itself has broken all by itself, or the grove on the bottom of the socket has broken off, allowing the clip to fall away.

How do you access the bottom of the socket to fit the circlip when it is in place? do you do it from under the car?

Cheers
