not another limiter thread (its is different though)
i was lead to believe that after reading millions of threads on here that converting to mph clocks was not going to lift the limiter but move it to 180mph.
now i have just purchased some clocks that are in mph and fitted to my car. but still it hits the limiter at 118mph according to my defi gauge!
but the new dials are not lining up properly. when i hit limited the dials were showing around 100mph.
any idea what could be going on here?

In order to alleviate this you either need to reprogram the velocity cut value in the ECU (possible on 99MY and newer cars), or fit a converter to the speed signal line/cable - it's this approach that moves the limiter up to 180mph.
yeah i am aware of that, as i stated i was lead to believe that if i changed the clocks to mph clocks then the limiter would move to 180mph. not 180 kph. i have a 97 v3 sti that runs on mechanical clocks. so i know i need to convert it. but thought that mph clocks would do this for me??
as has been said,putting clocks on with which is just a mph facia will not alter anything limiter wise.
fit a convertor at the gearbox end or behind the clocks and hey presto,all is sorted,the limiter is still there tho,but you`d have to hit 180 MPH and i dont think any tuned scoob can do that !

i thought these clocks were in mph hense wouold move the limiter, not that they were mph facia. but sounds like thats all it is. cheers for the help though guys.
i dont see why this car was running with mph clocks on there own then. god knows how the owner knew what speed he was doing (i took out of the car myself)

when they are still limited,you can fit 110mph facia`s and this will show the correct speed still as 180 kph is 112mph.
any other faica,say a 140mph or 160 mph facia while still limited wont show the correct speed

i know. but i didnt know that it was only the facia changed on these clocks. i actually thought it was the clocks in mph which would move the limiter. looks like im wrong and the clocks are the same as what i had in the first place. oh well. will have to buy a proper convertor
From the factory your car would have come with "180" (obviously KM/H) marked dials whose needle indicates the correct KM/H speed (obviously!).
It seems the previous owner, to comply with UK law, chose to fit the option of "110" marked dials to, effectively, make the speedo read the correct MPH... (but WITHOUT changing the physical ratio of the needle).
You seem to have reverted back to "180" dials... But becuase, once again, the needle's ratio hasn't been changed, then the speed indicated is back to KM/H again!
So, to indicate MPH when using the "180" dials, you need to fit a x0.621 step-down physical speedo convertor between gearbox and speedo head, as stated...
This has the upshot of moving the speed limiter to, effectively, at 180 MPH... and not 180 KM/H or 112 MPH! (i.e. as would be the case if the convertor is NOT fitted).
