Knock Link feedback..... 120 mph then coast then floor it...and what lights up?
#1
Hi all,
Just want quick feedback from owners with knock links set at max sensitivity and with the piezo mic located under the IC on the block.
I never get anything but the first LED unless I repeatedly floor the throttle at say 120 then back off then floor and so on. If I do this I get a brief flash of the RED Knock LED. Could be transitional ... but would feel better if others see this to

If you never get any lights on max sensitivity I would move the knock link.
There is a nice tapped hole directly below the header tank which gives very good feedback for the piezo mic. The red lights you are seeing - no idea!

The Reds are hardly ever and only if I do as I said in the thread start..honest. never see a red under 110 mph regardless of how I drive.
Under the header tank??? on an STi too?? I am on the block now.

Is it easy to fit a knock link , I have fitted adjustable boost today , and got some serious pinking at one stage , wound boost right back down but feel I need a knocklink before i tinker with it again.

It's very easy, all it takes is some basic knowledge in how to use a spanner....and what +12VDC and ground is.
Let me know if you need more help.
Scoobymania has a very nice "knocklink" of their own, with a small LED bar instead of the bulky Link one.

It is easy, but your choice of where yoou mount the mic can make it a bit tricky.
I mounted mine under the IC ...this is the recommeded location. You need to remove the IC to do this.

Julian,
Go to this link and read Jan Shims post. There is instructions and pic there too of where and how to fit the sensor.

On mine, I only get the first green light say above 5500 lighting up. It doesn't fluctuate it is steady. I can't remeber if it was Bob Rawle or Pete Croney that said one green steady light at higher revs is normal engine noise.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Wrexy.

The mic will pic up engine noise, and I've seen as far as 2:nd green light up around 7000 on my car (when logging from the link it's usually around ~20-ish on the knock column - noisy subaru lumps ).
Your Big Red (tm) lit up on liftoff didn't it?

It might be my ears but thinking on the noise, could have been wastegate flutter as the engine didnt go bang !
The car was pulling about 1.0 bar, no boost cut I would have thought it could take 1.0 bar its run on optimax all the time .
i think i will need to get it set up by a technician, even the length of hose you use seems to influence how much pressue there is !

It is an imprecise art unfortunately. Det does sound unlikely, but you can't be too cautious. With a Knocklink it would be much more reassuring as long as it is working properly
