Default DEFI Oil Temp sensor

I've got a DEFI oil temp sensor ready to fit with the 3rd cylinder adaptor, problem is, only the tip of the sensor looks like it will be in the flow of oil.
It looks like the problem is the adapter, a Lemans SUB067. It doesn't have a thread all the way down, so the adapter can't screw in any more.
Anyone else had this?
I suppose it won't be a problem to put more of a thread in it.

The sensing element is only in the tip.

That may be the case but its doesn't seem right that the sensor doesn't screw all the way in. I've not seen it mentioned in any posts before.
