Default Exhaust query

Wondering if anyone can help me out,i have just bought a bugeye Sti and it has an Aftermarket exhaust fitted(not sure what type but car has HKS sticker on back window)and it's very, very loud with a 5" end tailpipe. After driving around the bumpy streets i heard a banging/knocking so had a look underneath and seen that the middle section thats bolted onto the sportscat looks to be 3" (maybe 3.5") and the backbox is about 2.5 (or bigger). To get to the point the backbox pipe is just pushed into the middle section and has a piece of thick silver sticky tape around it and a u-bolt clamp. The backbox rattles about a fair bit.

What is the normal way of joining this,i thought it would be flanged.Any ideas on what i can do with it? Advice would be appreciated

Hi although I am no expert I would take the car along to some where like Power-flow Exhaust. I Know that they can make any sort of exhaust pipe you need. They should be able to weld some sort of reducing flange so the pipes are properly mated together. Hope this helps you out!
