Default PPP again, sorry!! :)

Hi guys,

First off, I must apologise for bringing up a subject which you must get continually and get pretty frustrated with.

Basically what has happened to me is this. I bid on a 'prodrive performance pack' on ebay, and didn't win. However, I've got a second chance offer.

In the listing, it says it consists of an ECU, backbox, Silicone Y Hose and thats it. Is there anything else in there that I would need?

I've been offered those three components for under £400, do you think thats a good deal? I'm pretty handy with the spanners, and I think I can handle fitting the Y piece and the backbox. Is fitting the ECU as easy as it sounds? Just unplug the old one and plug in the new one? I don't need to do anything fancy with the alarm or immobiliser or anything???

A quick answer on the price and what the pack should contain would be appreciated as I've got 24hrs to respond!!

Thanks,

Mark.

Without knowing what model/year its for I can't tell you if its all you should have or not....

Most newage (if not all) PPP's have a modded downpipe - classics don't, with a divorced wastegate pipe round the cat and then a centre decat, but at that price pus £150 ish for your own decat its reasonable value I would say.

What car are you buying it for - a WRX or STi - as this kit sounds like a PPP for a WRX.
It is missing the decat end section of the downpipe though, so it won't be the complete kit.
The ECU will need to be coded to your keys/immobiliser as well. £30 at a dealer.

Confirm with the seller if the decat section is also included. If not then try and knock off £50 and source one from elsewhere.
Fit all parts of the kit apart from the ECU. Drive to a dealer/Ecutek mapper and get them to fit the ECU and code the keys for about £60.

Thanks for your help. I have a plain ol' WRX from 2001 (a bugeye) and the PPP that the seller is offering is from a 2004 car. (Hence I asked yesterday if the 2004 car was a 2.5 yet or not... thanks to the people who answered that too!)

I'm thinking that even if I'm missing the decat downpipe its still good value. The seller made fairly clear it wasn't included by stating the three items that he was offering, so I haven't really got any room to haggle with him. Still, as you say £150 for my own decat, fit the backbox and hose myself take the decat and ECU to an ECUtek place, and robert is your mothers brother, as they say.

Rock and or Roll!

As far as I know, you don't need the uprated fuel pump for the WRX model, only the STi.

All I need is a sports cat downpipe and I'm there.

I got the rest of the stuff for £330 delivered!

Only downside is, now I have to spend *More* money to get it on and working!!

The decat section is the short length after the downpipe cat. Its about 70cm long. You still keep the existing cat in the upper part of the decat.
Have a look at Ebay item 170213824552 for an exmaple of this short decat pipe.
Going for a full turbo back decat will put the boost control and fuelling under strain on the PPP ECU map.

So if I bought that item (170213824552 - SUBARU 2ND DE-CAT EXHAUST FOR THE NEW AGE IMPREZA 01)

That would do the same job as the missing bit from the PPP? Would I have MOT 'issues' with that?

Sorry for all the Q's!

The only problem you will get is the checksum in the ecu will not match the one in your ignition system so car will not start

Yeah but I can take it somewhere and get it 'played' with?

Anyway, my understanding of a checksum is an extra bit on the end of a binary word that shows if the rest of the number is odd or even when added together. By that thinking its got a fifty fifty chance of working! </n3rd>
