Default EGT sensor placement

Hi!

I have got a DEFI EGT gauge and wanted to ask you where I should place the EGT sensor..

Some guys say 3rd cylinder.. some in the uppipe, some in the downpipe..

Where should I fit the EGT sensor??
Where are your EGT sensors?

Maybe you have some pics!?

Greetings
Steve

Hi All, digging up an old thread, I have a V4 classic and looking to fit an EGT gauge. Where is the best place for the sensor, I assume its best to drill and weld in a nut/reciptical for the sensor, but where is the best place? Can it be done without removing any of the exhaust system from the car?

I put mine in manifold where lambda is on some cars i had to tap thread in mine
If put in down pipe wouldn't be very accurate far away from ports would read lower temps

as above, needs to be close to the engine to be of any use to you. Wouldn't recommend drilling and tapping the hole whilst the exhaust is still on the car. Any shavings/bits you don't get out will be forced right into your turbo.

For correct measurement the EGT sensor should be put in the up pipe.

the manifold and up-pipe will be the same, it's putting the sensor post-turbo i.e at the top of the downpipe where there's a difference of up to -100c on the manifold position. I've had the sensor in both places. If it's got to be at the top of the downpipe just reckon on +100c
