Fuel pump prime question
Hi,
I have a cold starting problem,on my 97 i am pretty sure , i used to hear the pump prime for a mo, just before starting, i dont seem to hear this anymore, but i can hear a whril type noise when the car finally does start.
I have a switch on the dash board that i belive cuts the power to the pump, if i switch it off the car dies after around 4 seconds, if i push it in again just before the engine cuts out, it will run again fine. But when i push it in the morning, i never hear the pump prime. i have to use this switch to thin out the fuel mixture for the car to start. IE Switch on, turn over engine, while turnning over cut the switch, engine then starts to fire, but not quite, press switch again, and if im lucky the car will start. a lot of hassle every day. this does not seem to be the case, if car is warm, but if left for a few hours, the problem is back.
Not sure if this is anything to do with it, but kids once syphoned my tank one night, and i think that was when my troubles my have started.
The car also feels under powered all the time, and sluggish at low revs.
Whats getting to me is i think i hear the pump running when started. Is it at all possible that the pump work fine once started.
Greatful of any help
Doug
