Question Swapping a PPP ecu...

Hi all, wonder if one of you may be able to help. We have a 52 plate WRX with the PPP ECU and would like to take it out and put it into another car, same year etc. We tried swapping them over and changing the chip in the key but this didn't work. Is there something else that needs to be done to make the swap work?

Thankyou

Pele

There was a thread about this earlier about a WRX 03 ppp swap, and I seem to recall that it's a dealer only operation as you have to reprogram the immobiliser (Not sure why, but maybe it keeps a fingerprint of the ECU or something)

Use the original keys and go to an dealer/tuner who can use ecutek or the subaru computer, you need to swap over ecu's there and then get the kys coded, it's a 1min job with the computer, don't forget the spare key..

If its the same year car it will work. The main dealer will reprogramme both of your keys with Tek 3. But once done you cant simply put your standard ECU back on, the keys will need coding again.

does it work the same if you don't have both sets of keys (e.g. if you buy one of ebay)? I.e. does the reprogramming need something from the original key, or is it simply an update to the existing key?

Anytime you get a key/ecu reprogrammed you will have to do both keys!

Hrm, no I meant like this (I think I might be having a thick moment here ):

Say you buy a PPP ECU off ebay, so you want to put it in the car.
Would you need the keys from the car the PPP ECU came from originally in order to program the keys for the car the PPP has moved into?

I.e. is there some code (or somesuch) that is transferred from the old set of keys to the new set of keys, or do you just need the keys from the car that the ECU is going in to?

No you wouldnt need the PPP's keys. The Tek 3 will code your keys to whichever ECU you have in your car!

I would leave your ECU in your car, drive it to a dealer, swap the ECU and get them to code your keys to the new ECU. Or if you can find someone with access to a Tek 3, even better!
