Hi I have a 95 wrx and when I changed the head gasket when I put it back together there was a knocking.
When I have taken it apart again the gaskets I have been supplied are from a my98 on could this be the cause of the knocking, because before they were changed the engine was fine.

 

take the new ones and compare them with the old ones!! this is prob quickest way of seeing if they matching, and if they dont would suggest getting some nice shiny ones that fit

Are there any signs of the pistons hitting the heads ?

The later head gaskets are .6mm, the earlier 1.4mm thick.

on the heads the markings which are on the pistons are visable on the heads but unsure weather they are def off the pistons i know that when I put the engine back together the inlet manifold was really difficult to get the bolts in, but at the time never thought anything of it but now thinking that the gaskets I got are the wrong ones.


If you look at the one for the right hand side the R is back to front.

 

Did you take the pistons out, and if you did, are you sure they went back in the right way round ?

I can't see anything obviously wrong with the heads.
