Default Power limited?

A strange problem has started tonight, whenever I accelerate, in any gear, at about 4.5/5k rpm the engine appears to be "limited". The whole engine shakes, violently enough to shake the car. As I say this happens from 1st through to 5th, and when the car is out of gear aswell.

Anyone experience anything like this before?

Edit: Sorry, the car's a '95 WRX 5 speed manual....

To be honest, I can't see it being the speedo cable...

Not if it's doing it enough to shake the whole car...!!!

No idea what it might be though... Does it settle down once past 5k or haven't you gone that far???

Ady.

the speedo cable being loose (speedo not working) will cause the car to go into limp mode which will give you the symptoms you have at about that rev range. Do you also have a CEL (check engine light) on the dash? Is your speedo working now?

I pushed the speedo cable on firmer and the problem has gone away... didn't have a CEL just one of those things I think, was on but not 100% on...

Working now, thanks for the replies
