Default ECU Advice

Went on the rollers today and got a dire result. My old WRX got 271.2bhp. My TK Type RA will keep up with it quite happily so I was expecting a similar figure.

Mine came in at 211 bhp (dont laugh!). Apparently the Jap chip in there is pants, its not quite getting to 0.8 bar on the boost and more like 0.7. Fueling is terrible.

I wanted to see if its the chip causing this, can I simply reconnect the J1 and the car still run ok with the current STi ECU (even though its not an sti) or should I try the Z4 ECU I have to se if thats any better.

I basically want to work out if its the cjip causing the problem or a sensor was another possibility. I can post the graphs up if thats any help....

Cheers

Si

Boost is 0.9 bar in the early cars, yes you can reconnect the jumper and run off the std chip without removing the upgrade iirc. Fuel cut occurs at 1.18 or there abouts so you won't be able to push things up much.

What chip (whose) is it ?

Funnily enough i was at Triton (i guess thats where you were) as well and was dissapointed .
I've got a 93 wrx and was running a Z4 in my car and came out to be less than when i was running the standard ecu, the fuelling was f**ked and the car was not holding boost in my case its a bloody good excuse to get an Apexi (i'm sort of hoping its a dodgy ecu)
TBH honest best go back to Triton and have a word with them thats what i'm going to do.

The chip is one that came in it from japan so havent got a clue. Theres no english writing or logos on it though. Im happy with the figure they gave, I got a low one on my ols silver wrx (also at triton today with dragons on) and that showed a dodgey coil pack and clutch up. Thats been sorted and it went from 247 last time to 271.

I should add he did say it could be a sensor of some kind. Im looking for ideas to check as I have all the spare parts readily available off a smashed up car but have no idea what to check and I cant really afford £90 an hour to find out!

The odd thing is i cant imagine them fitting an sti ecu, adding a chip then mapping it so badly that it underboosts and the fueling is too rich. The idea of a chip is to improve performance so Im starting to wonder if its actually something else.

if its any consolation on my STi Type R i have a 20G turbo,gruppe s headers,helix up-pipe,apexi power FC ecu,sx fuel reg,550cc injectors,Hybrid FMIC,walboro pump,K&N Induction and i only made 306 bhp today

figure that one out

whats worse is that it made more when it was standard

powerwrx thats sort of why i'm hoping its a dodgy ecu or possibly a bad sensor/connector going to get it r/r with the standard ecu.
scooby-tc it seems quite a few people had lower power figures today.

Been reading up and looks like its one of three things

The ECU
The MAF
or The o2 sensor.

I know where the MAF is and can get one of a UK car if itll fit, if not I can borrow my neighbours to test.

I can try the ECU aswell but where is the O2 sensor located??

Right, checked the MAF thats fine. Chucked took out the S8 ECU, couldnt reconeect J1 to try it without the chip so slapped in the spare z4.....

Now thats what Im talking about, 10x better, puulls all the way boosting properly, idling better, smoother when driving in general, feels like a new car with twice the welly.

So I just need to get a new chip and decide wether to plug it into the S8 or the Z4....

Thanks for all the help, Im a happy bunny now!
