Default Creaky Steering

I have a 95wrx and the steering has started creaking just as you move it either side of centre, really annoying, has anyone had this before?
thanks

Unfortunately it is probably your steering rack.
Put the car on a ramp and get someone to move the steering wheel about while the front wheels are still in contact with the ramp. Check for steering bush movement but if you can find nothing, pay particular attention to the rack. I have come accross this several times on older cars.

Interesting. I've had a similar problem on my P1. It started after I had some ajdustable top-mounts fitted and increased the castor, thereby increasing the weighting / load on the steering. On mine it sounds like the noise is comming from behind the dash. It only does it at low speeds and the improvement in handling from the top-mounts was definately worth the pain. However it would be nice to beable to fix it.

Hi.
Alot of the time this can also be noisy/creaky front springs, They can turn in the shock absorber leg. A way to cure this is to cut some pieces of Bicycle inner tube, Compress the springs slightly & insert the rubber on top & underneath the coiled spring where it touches the shocker spring cups Etc. Once fitted this then gives the springs that much more resistance to turning.

I will check out your suggestions, must say the noise does sound like it's coming from behind the dash but you can still hear it outside as well.
