im not 100% mate but as fas as i know wrx type r is more or less just a 2door wrx whereas the sti has variable diff and obviously more power etc being an sti,as for ur car if it has the dial down at the handbreak and hasnt on the dash maybe ur instrument panel on the dash was replaced at some time or maybe your handbreak surround was replaced with an sti one???sure youd have a good idea by looking at the rest of the car as in engine interior etc and driving the car,it should feel different if your diff is working..v5 and 6 in the 4 door versions are more or less the same apart from the 6 having a clutch start, lip on the spoiler and front splitter,id say its similar on the 2door....

mine is a version 6 mate, basically you have to press down the clutch and turn the key to start the car...it wont start otherwise, the lip on the back spoiler is just a small curve on it only found on the version 6 but many older cars have them anyway so that wont tell you anything...il get u a pic if i can..
