Does it sound like a small hammer hitting a metal panel?
Could be anything from a loose heat shield, piston slap to bottom end bearings starting to go.
Any other rattling noises while on the move?

Go to the dealer armed with some possible causes and leave it there overnight so they can start it next morning.
Another possibility is the cambelt tensioner.

thanks guys ,will go to the dealers next week.it only knocks for a second when first started from cold, doesnt do it for any more than 2 seconds, but sounds deep when it does do it.after the few seconds it stops, and youd be none the wiser that there was a problem, quiet as a mouse!.
