Default After market panel filter problem!?

Just been informed by a Subaru Dealer that using an after market panel air filter has been cautioned by Subaru as oil droplets get onto a sensor causing all kind of problems including increased fuel usgae and potential engine failure!

Anyone heard of this and if so should I be removing the ITG filter I have and replace it with a standard Subaru one as recommended.

Your thoughts/experiences?

I hope not, I've fitted a GREEN cotton panel filter to mine and would hate to think it was fooking anything up, (like the MAF).

Do a search on ITG filters.

It has been suggested on SN that oil contamination from the filter is causing MAF failure
Cheers

The GREEN cotton is oily, at least mine is.

I read the cleaning instructions earlier this morning and to clean it I have to:

a) remove all the residue from it using a paint brush or comressed air
b) washing it with tepid water and dry thoroughly
c) spray with "special" oil

It is oiled yes, but believe the ITG one is much more so and AFAIK no one has ever had a maf issue running the green, some have with the ITG..

HKS Filters are dry foam.....
Works well in mine.
I know Green cotton is favourite around here, so they can't be that bad....

For what it's worth in the Scoobymag trial, STI filter in a new age WRX delivered 6 less BHP than the OE item, Green cotton filter only just performed better than the OE ... ho hum!

So anyone know if HKS filter with be better than ITG filter. ITG has oil on it, HKS is dry foam... seems to be a better idea. Is performance improved with these filters. People are saying th Green filter is slightly. The Si is not supposedly. HKS?

BTW Supplier is Scoobymania

postage will be around £4
