Angry MOT emission FAIL - Help!!!

Hi all,

I have a '93 wrx jap import, it has just failed its mot on the emissions!!

It failed on the first part of the test, normal idle i think??

The CO level should get down to .3 to pass but my car could only manage .7 after warming it up on fast idle for a couple of minutes, the tester didn't bother doing the rest of the test as one of the steering rack gaitors was split.

The car has an HKS system fitted (already fitted when i bought the car) but the downpipe incl. cat looks standard.

Can anyone give me any pointers, i.e it's got 97ron bp in the tank at the moment, should I fill her up with optimax and dump a bottle of octane booster in as well before I take her back for a retest??

cheers

Alan

Looks like you will need to swap your exhaust to get it through the mot

The cat, Maf, O2 sensor or coolant temp sensor are faulty assuming the idle is ok. ie not misfiring and idling around the 850rpm mark, well serviced with good plugs, clean air filter and so on. check the values for the above at the ecu and or read the fault codes.

I am assuming the cat was very hot as otherwise it will fail.

Checked for fault codes a week or so ago and all clear, also reset the ecu (could this have caused the problem??) I have noticed that the car seems to be a bit hesitant between 3 and 4k rpm when the boost gets up to .7/8bar, could this be a faulty coil pack, would this caused the problem as the car ticks over ok at around 850rpm
