Unhappy dies on acceleration

Hi
Ive just fitted an apexi induction kit on my 2002 sti prodrive. The day after i fitted it i went to go for a drive , i started the car and it just cut out, started it again and managed to reverse out of my drive and it cut out again. Third time i managed to go for a little drive, accelerated and as soon as i got to three and a half thousnd revs the engine died as if id hit the rev limiter. i took it steady and didnt accelerate to hard for a few miles then once everything had warmed up it was fine. The car ran fine for a few days then a similar problem happened again(but only on acceleration and didnt cut out on idle like before). It cleared and has run fine since. Any ideas on the problem?? Cheers.

It is probably screwing the MAF readings. Remove the induction kit and see if it settles.

More worryingly it could be cutting because it is detting.

Serious engine damage could be around the corner if you continue and the MAF readings are all over the place.

Detting. is this detonation? is this caused by poor fuel?? i only use optimax or the new ultimate from bp?

or is it the fact that the engine will be recieving more air because of the air filter. should the ecu not take it into account?
