Default Lagging Headers and downpipe.

Right...another thicko question from me !

My new headers will arrive today, so i need to get them lagged.

Are there any recomendations on what type & quantity of lagging i should use ?

Also...what do you guys use to secure the lagging ?
Stainless cable ties ? Stainless wire ??

I aint got a clue !

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Johnny

Lagging them will keep the heat in the exhaust which will speed the flow of gases up to the turbo as the gas particles will have greater kinetic energy at higher temps. This will improve spool up time.

It will also help to keep under bonnet temps down drastically which will also help with performance, particularly if you have an induction kit.

There is no reason at all NOT to wrap them.

For headers you will require approx 60' of wrap. Do it with a half overlap and spray them with hi heat protective coating to stop them soaking up moisture or else everytime it rains it will look like you've blown a rad hose.

Use wire twisted round to secure it.

Hope that helps.

The wrap from DEI available through Nimbus Motorsport has a tell tale on it showing the overlap. One roll does a set of headers. 01377 236170 and ask for Steve. or sales@nimbusmotorsport.com.

I've had no problems with the Cooltek wrap, although I would suggest wearing long sleeves and gloves when using it - It makes you itch like mad!!!

Bought mine off WUZ, and some recently from a local boy racers shop and used about 10 metres to wrap the headers, I think.

The wrapping material I have told you about is best applied wet / damp and must be applied tightly. It is held in place by tie wire which costs about £10 for a round dispensing box. Do not use the thinnest grade. You need a pair of wire pulls which allows you to twist the wire tight. I think that using proprietory tie straps works out expensive. I could wrap your headers if you got them to me or alternatively you can borrow the wire tie if you cover postage.

Many thanks Harvey.

The headers are actually getting fitted on monday, so the lagging will be getting done over the weekend. If i had more timescale, i sure would`ve taken you up on that offer.

The guy who is doing all the work to the car is going to lag them, and i know he will make a good job of them.

Again...many thanks for all the input.
I`ll let you all know the results when i get the car back, and mapped.
