Got an Apexi S-afc for my 95 Wrx, wired it in as per diagram, turn ignition on buttons illuminate, screen will come on when button pressed but will only stay on with finger on the button and so cannot put any of the settings in.I have read the manual but there's never that bit of info you want is there!! As far as i can see i have wired it in correctly and double checked it all.
Has anyone had any experience installing these things??
Am i stupid and missing something obvious??
Any help/info,comments, much appreciated.

Errm sounds to me like it is wired incorrectly. When the ignition is switched on the Apexi should light and do a start up initiation displaying APEXI and finishing with parameters on the screen. I do have some piccies of the start up as I currently have one which I am going to sell - I will dig them out and post em up for you.

Yep, printed off all 50 pages of the manual. It does the introductory thing when you hold the button. I made sure i got the earths the right way round (brown nearest ecu) and the wiring for the air flow signal the right way round.I'll check all the wiring see if they have good contacts and see what happens.

WwW, the unit should power up and do intro just be switching ign on.
It sounds like a common prob with the Apexi units, use a seperate earth for each earth connection to the unit (ie. one from ecu for sensor earths and one from the chassis for power up earth). This normally sorts out the problem.

Brown would be best suited in the loom very close to the ECU as this is the sensor GND. The Black could be earthed to the chassis of the car close to the ECU as this is the Apexi's GND.

Cheers!!! I'll try that route then. Ive checked all wiring and connections several times over now and cant see anything thats wrong so i'll try earthing the black wire to the chassis and see what happens.
Thanks again folks.

Hmmm, still no joy, any other suggestions? (stamp on it springs to mind)
Whats the chances of the unit been faulty? Anyone elses gone wrong?
I aint no auto- electrician but after checking all the wiring against the diagram in the manual at least 7 times, i'm fairly confident that its all in the right place. It does the introductory thing if you hold the button down but just goes off when you let go so its definately got power to it, would it still do this if the earth connection was dodgy?

Hi Matt, YHM
As people have stressed on here (and me in my emails to you), the wiring is critical. I know you have checked, but I have had this many times when first fitting the SAFC (new and used the same).
The fact that it comes on when you are pressing buttons points to the unit working, but a poor connection is still my guess.
All I can say is to make sure (where the SAFC wiring splices the ECU wires) that the wires are touching a solid connection. Open the splicers up and pull the plastic wire coating away slightly on both the ECU wiring and the SAFC wiring. I know it may seem like flogging a dead horse mate, but it should work.
I guarantee the unit. If you still can't sort it, send it back to me and I'll refund you in full no problem mate. If I get the unit back and find it to be faulty, I will send you a brand new unit to make up for any inconvinience mate, but I'm 100% it's fine, it was tested on my own car.

The wires should'nt be earthed to the chassis remember - are u using the earth on the ECU multiplug??? Don't forget the brown and black have to be at least 1cm away so there is no interference..
If you've got the manual - RTFM..., it's not too bad to install..
PS - My other half's fitted mine and he's offered to fit yours too.
