Well story is I was today fitting my new knock link and whilst feeling behind the dash in the passenger footwell to pass the signal cable through noticed it was a bit wet and the water had antifreeze in it

on closer inspection the water seams to becomming from the centre of the dash and towards the bulk head, the headder tank is also very low so I am thinking possibly heater matrix

Does any body have another Ideas before I go and spend a fortune having this replaced ( I usualy find that cars are built round the heater matrix, was on my golf, so presuming its going to be expensive)

Also if you agree with me and tink it is the hearer any tips would be good

Cheers Alistair (god I wish I could leave the car alone then I wouldn't find the problems)

edited to add that this is an MY93WRX with air con that is always left on (if it makes a differance)

Check the hoses and jubilee clips to the heater matrix first.

If you never use the heater (I don't in the tropics), just "short circuit" the coolant loop to it. The 2 coolant hoses can be seen entering the engine bay from the firewall on the passenger's side.

Get an adaptor, and connect one to the other - thus totally bypassing the matrix. Do not simply "plug up" the hoses as that will affect the loop running back to the thermostat, thereby causing the coolant to run hotter.

I've tried both techniques, and the short circuit method works best.
