A shot in the dark, you may say. I have had a persistent rattle on lift off as the tacho passes down between 3000 and 2500 rpm (therefore more evident when I'm warming up in the mornings, as just above this is where I do most of the gear changes) The noise, however, is not restricted to just occuring between gear changes, but EVERY time the tacho passes this point. It sounds like a graunching, rattly chain, heatshieldy sort of sound, and with the bonnet up I can't pinpint the location. Ideas??

Yours, ever so slightly worriedly,
Zip

You will need to get the car up on a ramp or over a pit, check the downpipe heat shield.

These crack at the point where the two tabs hold each half of the heat shield in place.

Had mine mig welded when it broke and it makes a world of difference. It is common apparently so may be a good place to start.

(cost me £5 for the welding work).
