I would like to upgrade the power of a MY96 UK car. I've done a bit of searching on here but have not been able to put together a definitive answer. A lot of the info regarding garages is yrs old now.
So can anyone advise what the first step is to modify the car? I thought about an ecutek but wasn't sure if it would apply to this old model car. Will the chip upgrade by itself provide a good power increase or will I need a different exhaust as well? Can anyone recommend a place to get the work done?
thanks.

Most people go for a decat (or part decat) and sometimes an induction kit before getting it chipped/remapped. Depending on where you are in the country there are loads of garages that can do the stuff.

As already said, a de-cat exhaust and a new air filter such as
a green or ITG would be a good start.
After that, a link ecu or secondhand ppp ecu + pipes and your laughing

Check out scoobysport and br developments.
Good luck

ScoobyECU - about £60 for the board and chips/map, £5 for a socket if you need one in your ECU ( I did ) and £40 to solder the socket into the ECU.
If your ECU already has the socket, you're laughing for £60 !
I wasn't gonna try soldering the socket onto my ECu ...!
Works well, raises boost and fuel cut off, tweeks the ignition map, and other stuff!
