Power steering pump repacement
Okay, so I have a totally dead power steering pump on my '03 WRX. I bought a used one from PolePosition that doesn't really work much better so I think that rather than keep trying used ones from breakers that are on their way out I may just bite the bullet and buy a new one. I've rebuilt my original but while again better than the used one I got, it's not perfect and I suspect is probably just worn inside.
So the question; before I stump up £500, has anyone tried these pumps from HK?: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Power-Ste...QAAOSwy9pci1ME

The original was a complete failure, although it had been giving symptoms of hard/soft steering for a time. Once rebuilt it was better but seemed to need revs to create pressure which led me to suspect it’s worn inside. The used replacement was better but it was still making sucking noises despite proper bleeding. I may try rebuilding this one as I have enough spare seals but as I’m planning to keep the car for the long term I’m happy to spend the right money on it if needs be, but obviously if I can avoid paying out £500 then I will! The top low pressure o-ring also didn’t fix the issue, another ‘known’ common point to go.
Its currently 16 years old and on c100k miles. From what I’ve heard these pumps are definitely beginning to fail more often, either through age or higher miles, or a combination of both. That’s from several guys I know in the states as well as Impo Car Parts who were saying they’ve been selling a lot more rebuild kits recently where Subaru offer them (they don’t for 03+)

Just been looking at this on mine, gave the UJ a good clean with a load of penetrating oil and then re-greased it last weekend, need to get it out of the garage later and give it a try to see if it's fixed it, not sure about the newage but on the classic the UJ sits right under the turbo and next to the downpipe, which if you have a de-cat has no heat shields on it.
