Default Buying A Subaru New Shape Hawkeye

Hi to all,

I am new to the forum, and would like to say hi to all

Looking at purchasing my first Subaru Imprezza WRX, just a few questions to ask please before I view the car.

The trader says the car has been remapped, but there is no paperwork to back this up, is there
anyway of knowing if this is true by just driving the vehicle?

The car currently has a catback exhaust system, dumpvalve, but just standard airfilter.

Also, I understand this has been asked before, is there anything I should be trying to spot with driving and walking around the car please.

This will be my first Subaru, and have never driven one before.

Thankyou

Best Regards

Marc

hi and welcome

1st of all the hawkeye is not a new shape (its been out of production for nearly 12 years now) are you sure its a hawkeye your looking at?
have you got a link to the advert?

if it has the 2.5 engine then BEWARE its the worst subaru engine out of them all and i would say if it hasnt been rebuilt then get saving as it will more than likely need one.
read here.........

https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...-failures.html

with that being said once the 2.5 has been rebuilt using decent parts its truly an awesome fast road car.

whats your budget? the wrx is the lesser of the models and if your wanting a decent amount of power then its not really the ideal starting place. the engine can **** itself at any power and the gearbox is on borrowed time after 350bhp.

try and go for an sti if budget allows, if your heart is set on the hawkeye shape then get one thats been rebuilt budget around £8k+ or if you cant stretch to that try for the blobeye shape sti (2003-2006) its a 2.0 and the engine is the best that subaru have ever made and many run well over 400bhp without issues. the sti's have the bomb-proof 6 speed box aswell along with a host of other nice features/upgrades. i started off with a wrx and i regret it as it was just a waste of money so i moved onto the sti flavour.

if you do still go for the wrx then normal checks apply with any car

-how many owners
-service history
-hpi check
-tyres
-brakes
-battery (turn everything on)
-oil leaks
-cooling fan kicks in
-clutch/gear engagement
-engine starts 1st time hot or cold
-everything works
-rear diff leaks
-cambelt history (every 4 years/40k)

if they cannot prove its been re-mapped then take it as its not..............any fool can tell you its been re-mapped

hope this helps

It should be in the for sake section on here, the pistonheads ad has just expired. if you have Instagram you can see the car in its entirety and anything else either ad me on Facebook Bryan Gallacher or bg3663 on Instagram if you have any other questions

apart from the halfords headlights I can see why you like it BUT it's expensive for a WRX, a much better car (STI) could be had for not alot more.

It says trip computer........not sure that's correct

I agree with Bryan. That's very very strong money for a WRX with an STI spoiler.

If you can stretch your budget look for a blobeye 2.0L STI.

it may well have been deleted my friend not 100% sure. as I said earlier if you have Instagram all the details and images videos etc are there, we can have a chat regarding the car, but can I just say you'd be getting a far better genuine sti than what you have your eye on.

You would be a little pissed if you paid that for the WRX and then had to rebuild it which will cost at least 4k so you would be 10.5 k into a WRX............**** that lol

Your STi is a fine example, would like to have a chat with you regarding your car, as I am a new member I can't private message you, maybe add you as a contact first? :-)

Thankyou for your kind help :-) I don't know if the STi insurance would be cheaper than Hawkeye being a 2 litre rather than 2.5? I am a 50 year old, so guess it doesn't really matter.

Your welcome mate, if you bought the wrong one it could leave a sour taste in your mouth when you should be enjoying Impreza ownership

Insurance for a UK car is cheaper than jdm. tax is also cheaper being before 06 when it jumped up. mine is 330 a year
