Are mods for the 2.0NA Boxer compatible with the 1.5NA boxer?
Hello All,
I have a 2006 Hawkeye Subaru Impreza 1.5R sports wagon
I am looking to pull off the stupidest thing imaginable, upgrading the 1.5 engine.
However, there is little information I can find about compatibility of parts. I wanted to buy a new header/manifold for the engine but there is next to nothing that shows as compatible with the 1.5 engine.
Usually there will be parts that shows as compatible with the 1.6 or the 2.0 but nothing that is concrete on the 1.5.
Getting a quote for a custom header job came to over £1,200, which is far more than I'd be willing to front for this.
I was thinking more in the £300 area.
Would anyone be willing to advise on compatibility of parts amongst the 1.5-1.6-2.0 N/A engines?
thanks

But I like dead horses
They're my favourite type of horse... Weird. So I kind of want to modify the current car.
Appreciate your opinion but did want something more inclined to progress through my issue rather than disregard it entirely.

no probs, no one much bothers because you will be spending similar money for mods such as an exhaust as you would on a turbo'd model and getting single digit improvements.
Subaru engines get their power from the turbo im afraid, remove that turbo and you'll get not alot.

As above but....
You can compare part numbers here.........
http://opposedforces.com/parts/impreza/en_g11/
Why nothing is listed is that the MY07 1.5 DOHC engine exhaust is totally different to the earlier 1.6 and 2.0 SOHC engined versions and only similar to the 2.0 DOHC engine version.
1.5 R and 2.0R
1.6I and 2.0I

Having a look through manifolds, custom is £1,200. Cobra is £650. Cost of replacement exhaust on top of that is like another £1,200
By the end of it I will have spent about half of what I'd spend on a decent wrx wagon... honestly, I'd like to keep my current car but I think you are very much correct.
What I'm going to do instead is just get an ecu remap. See if someone can squeeze some extra performance out of it's current config. I will be stuck with the car for at least 2 years more.

I just had a quick look on eBay for EJ204's and they're close to £1000. Seems ludicrously expensive. Going off that logic though, you might not loose out on much if you were to sell the whole car and buy a 2.0. There's over 50bhp to be gained going from the 1.5 to the 2.0 EJ204. Just make sure if you are doing that, you get the Hawkeye with the EJ204, not the earlier cars with the EJ201 as they're totally different and the EJ201 doesn't have much more power than your 1.5.
Have you tried different places to get a quote for a new exhaust? Prices can vary wildly in my experience. I needed a new cat back last year and I was getting quoted well above £500 for custom then the cheapest decent stainless pre built I could find was the Cobra at about £350 IIRC. Just before I bought the Cobra I tried one last place and got a custom stainless for £300 (went up to £320 because I chose a fancy tip) and they did a really good job on it.
I personally drive a 2.0 R Sport Wagon and am really happy with it. I don't kid myself that it's as quick as a WRX or STI but it's still a good car and can be worth modifying a small amount if it's something you want to do. Some people forget not every modification is about power gains too. I couldn't afford the insurance on a WRX right now so the R Sport was a good alternative being similar insurance costs to my parents Astra.
