Default Hatch Exhaust

The Miltek on the car, very nice it is too, is a little too quiet, and I am considering alternatives

However, looking through old posts I find folk encounter so many issues with their aftermarket exhausts it's put me off somewhat. Even H&S get bad rap now - a maker I always respected, and indeed have had on previous Subaru's so I may just stick

Have I been unduly scared, and if not then what is your recommendation?

Looking for a turbo back full decat, a little louder than the Miltek, one that is OK 'round town, but sounds good at blasting the beans

Cheers

Thanks. I always thought Cobra's were loud, but looking again they seem OK

As you're thinking of changing the complete system from turbo back, I assume just changing the back box won't make much difference?

I really don't know. I guess I was half thinking the whole thing would be changed, that way I could move on the Miltek

I would have thought the back box made qhite a difference though. The rear box and tail pipe on my FSTi is big, and trumpet shaped. When that's full on in 4th & 5th at about 5K it sounds perfect

I bet

What's the level like if you're trying to be quiet? Is that possible (to be quiet, not you trying )?

I have a H&S with centre pipe and 2nd cat removed was fitted by the previous owner just over a year ago. Sounds nice and deep not overly loud but turns heads. I see no issues with the quality, welds are all good and looks as new as the day it was fitted.

Is it a resonated Milltek? If it is you can always just remove the resonater between the backbox and downpipe with a straight through section?

Full decat is essential to fully breathe the motor

I didn't realise there was a sneaky one on the downpipe

Cobra don't do a jdm downpipe; your options are Miltek, Invidia, H and S, Infinity Bristol, or Japanese makes for down pipes. I am sorely tempted by a full titanium Invidia or Tomei, but at the end of the day, jdm is much quieter than Uk. I've got sti rear box, hks center and standard downpipe, and it's a bit droney. PTE'S h and S sounds great, there's a clip on you tube under spec c

That's my car yeah. That was a 6k rev out of 8k limit.

Turbo back H&S system with sports cat and resonator. Fit and forget. Certainly plenty loud enough for my tastes.

I have the shortest clip ever of the car down Donington Park straight on full chat if you want to pm me your number I can whats app it to you.

Run Yoko AD08R's on the Type R for their stiff side walls

And of course Subaru like them too, fitting BS's to all their more hardcore Impreza's

Dinitrol?

Tidy job - it's not sprayed everywhere

I thought Torque did a clearcoat, not the black you have (says so on their web site)

Do you know if they have a clear coat available as opposed to the back one?

Edit: ^What bonesetter said.

So, I've narrowed my choice down to either going turbo back Cobra with decat and resonator. I quite like the sound of it, and feedback is noise levels are what I'm after

Or, a Miltek decat d/pipe which is certain to make things louder

Edit: H&S in the running too. Same price as Cobra and I had one fitted on a 2004 2.0 JDM I owned a few years back which sounded brilliant
