Default Talk to me about Front Mount Intercoolers - which one to go for?

Long-time lurker - go easy

2004 Blobeye STI type UK, around 330bhp just now (uprated turbo and fuel pump, remap etc.).

FMIC choices - there's cheap ebay stuff (not going that route), higher end HKS stuff around £1350 and Japspeed kits around £300.

Aiming to get to a sensible 350-370bhp if feasible with another remap to take the FMIC into account. Not looking to go for massive bhp later on, so which FMIC would you choose for this kind of setup?

Cheers

Cheers Gaz. How much difference do you think it made over the TMIC?

I wouldn't bother for that bhp. The TMIC is all you need unless you're more interested in the appearance than the purpose.

The japspeed ones are ok but they're no better than the ones on eBay, the hdi gt2 is the best of the low budget front mounts.

The Sti top mount is very capable, neat, reliable and proven effective at 400bhp.

If you're not tracking it every weekend then you won't be pushing the limits of the Sti top mount. Unless you have no regard for the law and drive like you've stolen it everytime you get behind the wheel lol

Cheers for that - not really looking to go over 400 and nope, don't drive it like I stole it - not all the time

Japspeed units are only the cheap 2fast2cool ebay units with a mark up. As said, they are ok, plenty of people use them. Expect a few fitting issues.

As also said, if only aiming for 370bhp then stick with the TMIC. That'll do 400 just fine.

What uprated turbo are you running?

This ^^^^^^^^^

Your standard vf35 turbo should see you at 330 bhp.

Sc36 turbo and sti top mount will put you between 350-370.

Running a Japspeed one on mine with a GTX3076R turbo. Still running the engine in so only running low boost (0.7 Bar) but fitted well and no leaks thus far.
