Default Turbo noises

Classic WRX running standard Td05 turbo , 115k.

From 0.5 to around 1 bar when boost kicks in I hear like a screeching , after 1 bar it quitens down but still there. It's done this for yrs

No boost leaks I can find

Turbo on its way out ?

Pulls well and no performance issues

Cheers

Haven't checked turbo shaft for play yet , does that require turbo off or can you check whilst on the car ?

Sounds too metallic for gasket leak tho

If the up-pipe`s been blowing a while you should start to see signs of carbon where its leaking.

I had something similar on my car. The noise started last year in November, sounded like screaming from under the bonnet at 4k rpm and above, no apparent ill affects for a while, then I started getting exhaust fumes in the cabin, which got worse as time went on and more noticeable after hard driving.

The gasket between the turbo and the downpipe had developed a tiny crack in it. Couldn't see anything until I took the downpipe off, no carbon deposits etc on were visible on the outside. New gasket was 12 quid delivered from icp eBay.
