Did a search but couldn't find anything, I'm sure this must have been covered before but here we go:
I have a '95 non-aircon turbo Impreza, one rad fan as standard. I want to add a 2nd fan as I’m putting a fmic in. I bought a rad with twin fans off an aircon model & fitted it.
Now my question is how to get the 2nd fan to come on. There is a 2nd fan plug taped up unused but I’m sure there’s no point just plugging that in as it will only come on via the ecu when the aircon is on or whatever, which I don’t have.
So is the answer easy & just cut the taped plug off the loom, plug it into the 2nd fan & just solder the matching wires going to it into the 1st fan’s plug wiring? I know it means both fans will come on instead of one but that’s what I want so it’s all automatic as per factory so no toggle switches. Could there be an issue with the supplying relay/fuse?

The second fan supply also operates if the engine is hot enough for it if I remember correctly and not just for the A/C. You might be pushing it for the 1st fan cable to run both fans from it, also the fuse might not take the both of them. Just try it and see I suppose. Remember, the fuse is there to protect the cable and not what's connected to it so don't be putting a bigger fuse in.
