Got a 2003 WRX on 70000miles, not quite pulling smooth up through revs. Has been recently serviced by subaru and they say no problems, diagnostic clear of faults. The technician I spoke to on the phone recommended adding a fuel additive, seemed to think it would cure the problem. What is the best to use? Or has anyone else had similar problems, and what was the solution?

You have a few choices, your basic redex, forte is another good one, had one more but cannot think of the name of the stuff... bugger...
Who did you take the car to/call though?

The call was to the Subaru technician who serviced the car, he said he cannot find anything wrong and thinks it just needs a clean out. I will get some redex or forte and see if it works. Cheers

This is why you should get your car serviced by an aftermarket specialist and not Subaru. Just because there is no error code doesn't mean an important sensor isn't failing. Decent fuel has all the cleaning additives you need. There are additive options if you want to improve octane however. But these will not solve your problem.

I had a look around locally for a good garage which specialised in performance cars but all ones recommended were miles away, I work nights so it was hard to get there. Subaru just 2 miles away. Looks like I will have to do the miles to get it sorted!!!

Most specialists dont have the correct diagnostic machines to start with to service a subaru properly, the one thing a main dealer does is have the correct equipment, still that doesnt mean they are any good, or a "specialist" either, so to the OP, go to Prosport in Stockport, Pete knows more things about these cars than 99% of the specialists know added together but take it in for a service whilst you are there, if the garage used originally was in Audenshaw then I wouldnt put much hope in getting a decent diagnostic from them as they use to be a Rover garage....!

I stand by my original post, and you just agreed with me in your post Tony, by the end. Prosport call themselves a "performance specialist", and they are not a Subaru franchise as far as I can see.

There are many reputable Subaru specialists around the country.

Are you saying you think a fuel additive will fix his problem?

Prosport are still a Subaru dealership, just for servicing and warranty work though, Pete was a specialist before that for 15ish years and he does have all the up to date gear, including access to the japanese databases which 99% of the others dont

Cheers for the advice Tony. I have ordered some Forte, I may as well try it first; if it does work it will save some cash. If not I will see Pete at Prosport, I have been asking around about Prosport and it seems highly recommended, even by Subaru themselves. I will let you know what the results are.

By the way it was not the one that used to be Rover, Subaru have a dealership in Ashton now near Asda.

It was where Honda was, they have closed now. Its Subaru and Suzuki now, they have a good reputation in the area. and supply the Ashton police with cars to use as well.
